Hello friends!

I got this card from Mei via postcrossing! Thanks a lot ♥

Ely Cathedral, has its origins in AD 672 when St Etheldreda built an Abbey Church. The present building dates back to 1083, and cathedral status was granted it in 1109. . Architecturally it is outstanding both for its scale and stylistic details. Its most famous feature however is the central Octagonal tower, with lantern above, which provides a spectacular internal space and, along with the West Tower, gives a unique exterior landmark that dominates the surrounding landscape. Ely Cathedral is a major tourist destination, receiving around 250,000 visitors per year.

Did you know?
The cathedral appears on the horizon in the cover photo of Pink Floyd’s 1994 album The Division Bell.

Hello friends!

My friend Laura is currently studying in Scotland and she sent me this hilarious card of Glasgow. Thank you very much Laura, I love it ♥

Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, and the third largest in the United Kingdom (after London and Birmingham). It is situated on the River Clyde in the country’s West Central Lowlands. Inhabitants of the city are referred to as Glaswegians.

Did you know?

Glasgow’s underground railway system is the only one in Scotland, and the 3rd oldest in the world. It is sometimes nicknamed the Clockwork Orange, because of the colour of the trains.

Sophie tells me, that the man on the card is a Yeaman of the Guard, the oldest British military corps in existence although today their role is purely ceremonial. Their uniform are Tudor style which is when the corps was created.

Hello friends!

This is a nice card I received from Emma via swap-bot. Emma tells me, that she works in Manchester and that the market seen on the card is always full. I can imagine that haha.

Manchester is a city in the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester it lies within the United Kingdom’s second most populous urban area. Manchester is in the south-central part of North West England, fringed by the Cheshire Plain to the south, the Pennines to the north and east and an arc of towns with which it forms a continuous conurbation.

The world’s first stored-program computer was built at the University of Manchester and ran its first program on 21st June 1948. The Manchester Small-Scale Experimental Machine also known as ‘The Baby’ was developed into the Manchester Mark 1 which was then turned into the Ferranti Mark 1, the world’s first commercially available general-purpose computer. The SSEM had a 32-bit word length and a memory of 32 words. (Source)

The city is known worldwide as the home of Oxford University, the oldest university in the English-speaking world.
