Gudde Dag Frënde!

I received this beautiful card recently from Luxembourg via postcardunited! Thank you Jean-Marc!

As a representative democracy with a constitutional monarch, it is headed by a grand duke, Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, and is the world’s only remaining grand duchy. Luxembourg is a developed country, with an advanced economy and the world’s highest GDP (PPP) per capita, according to the United Nations in 2014. Its central location has historically made it of great strategic importance to numerous powers, dating back to its founding as a Roman fortress, its hosting of a vital Frankish castle during the Early Middle Ages, and its role as a bastion for the Spanish Road between the 16th and 17th centuries.

Did you know?

Luxembourgish, a Franconian dialect of High German, is the mother tongue of nearly all Luxembourgers. In spite of that, most official (written) business is carried out in French, whereas German is the first language taught in school and used in the media.

Gudde Dag Frënde!

A great card I got from Luxembourg via postcrossing! Thank you very much Caroline!

Luxembourg is a tiny little country nearby Germany. I was never there, but I heard it is a lovely place. When I look at this card I really can imagine it is a wonderful spot to live. Have you ever been to Luxembourg? Although it is so tiny most of the people are at least bilingual. They have three official languages: french, german and luxembourgish. This is so great! I would have loved to be raised up bilingual!!

Grand Ducal Palace, Luxembourg

Bonjour les amies!

Here goes my first card from Luxembourg! Thank you very much Anne! You are one really kind person ♥

The Grand Ducal Palace is a palace in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. It is the offical residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, and where he performs most of his duties as head of State of the Grand Duchy.

Here are some facts about Luxembourg:

  • The country is the only remaining sovereign Grand Duchy in the world.
  • The capital of the country is Luxembourg City, while the currency is Euro.
  • It is one of the smallest countries in Europe as well as the world.
  • The mother tongue of the natives of Luxembourg is Luxembourgish. It is a Franconian language of the Moselle region.
  • All the official proceedings and businesses in Luxembourg take place in French.
  • In Luxembourg, the first language taught in schools as well as used by the media is German.
  • Luxembourg has the highest GDP per capita in the world, which is nearly three times the EU average.

Really nice!
