Montréal, Canada

Bonjour mes amis!

I received this card through  a swap on swap-bot from Marianne! Thank you so much, I like the card a lot 🙂

Montreal  is a city in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is the largest city in the province, the second-largest in Canada and the 9th-largest in North America. Originally called Ville-Marie, or “City of Mary”, it is named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city. The city is on the Island of Montreal, which took its name from the same source as the city and a few much smaller peripheral islands, the largest of which is Île Bizard.

Did you know?

Montréal is the second largest French speaking city in the world (after Paris). Most Montréalers are bilingual, especially downtown. A non-Speaker of French can do well by greeting strangers with a confident Bonjour! Chances are that anyone who speaks French will recognize the lack of French capability and switch to English. In stores, many clerks will greet patrons with “Bonjour/Hi”, indicating bilingual capability; a response of bonjour will begin a transaction in French. At the end of a transaction, you will often be sent on your way with a friendly Bonne journée (Have a nice day).

Hola amigos!

I got this awesome card from Marco in Mexico! Thank you so much Marco! The only bad thing is that some stupid mailservice person put a staplerthingie in my beautiful postcard! 😥 meeeh!

Marco wrtites:

Yochib is a village in the rural area, ubicated in the state of Chiapas. People of the ethnic groups Tzotziles and Tzeltaes attend the local market and exchange goods like vegetables, domestic animals, cacao seeds, wood and cloths. Lots of them realize these exchanges without money. This commercial system was already used in the pre-columbian-area and many villages still use it nowadays.
